Jon Stewart Gets Screwed by the History Channel!
So sometime last week Jon Stewart, while responding to the "war on Christmas," included a clip on his show from the History Channel. Now this quote ended up being wrong and for that PolitiFact gave him a pants on fire rating. Now Jon Stewart admits when he is wrong and is normally pretty quick to admit it which is what he does in the video below. I wanted to post this because in the past Comedy Central, with some commentary from me, have showed that the History Channel is no longer what it claims to be and it saddens me.

The Daily Show on Climate Change and those oh so evil scientists
I am sure by now most people are familiar with The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, if you aren't you must have been living under a rock. Well last night's episode Jon discussed how the new BEST data continues to support the conclusion that the earth is warming.
Now while that wasn't perfect, the "climategate" scandal was a lot of stuff taken out of context and Jon doesn't ever acknowledge that, he does point out how no body is talking about this, well except for him. That is why I am trying to let everyone know.
Now naturally with more evidence supporting climate change the next "logical" question is what are scientists up to? For this he sends Aasif Mandvi to find out in the clip below the fold.

Lisa P. Jackson on Jon Stewart
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is, in my opinion, one of the most important federal agencies in the United States. This agency not only saves the environment but they also help save people and they assure that people in the United States have clean water to drink and clean air to breath. Hot on the heals of the far right trying to gut the EPA of much of its ability to enforce antipollution measures Lisa P. Jackson, the Administrator of the EPA, was on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and did an extended interview. She did a great job of explaining what the EPA does, although she was probably just preaching to the choir.

T. Boone Pickens on The Daily Show
So after my last post I figured I would include the extended interview Jon Stewart had with T. Boone Pickens earlier this week.
Mr. Pickens is someone who made his money in the oil and gas industry and is now an advocate of trying to get off of OPEC oil and converting to cleaner natural gas that we can find within the US. Mr. Pickens has also been an advocate of other alternative energy sources including wind power.

State of Education in America
So last night was apparently focus on education night on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report it all started with a typical Back in Black segment with Lewis Black
Funny yes but do we really learn much? No not really. But the guest segment from the Colbert Report was actually involved someone doing something that might be helpful.
His point about needing to educate people about what their rights are is very true. People know that they have freedom of speech and religion but far too many feel that this freedom doesn't mean that other's get to criticize their views. Not true if your views are wrong or I think they are crazy I have a right to say so, just like you do right back to me. I'm not going to reiterate his views on science he did a good enough job himself but I would like to point out Colbert's state of what the truth scientifically being what feels right is a view accepted by far to many people in the US today. This is not true, I may want to be better than the rest of the animal kingdom and not just a species of ape, but this isn't the way it works we are just a species of ape no matter how you look at it.
Who knew you could actually learn something from the Daily Show and the Colbert Report.
Also don't forget if you are going to be in the D.C. area on October 30th to attend either The Rally to Restore Sanity or The March to Keep Fear Alive, and let me know how it goes.

Time to act
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico(/America if you ask Colbert) continues to be the big news all over the U.S., as it should be. Jon Stewart on Wednesday night did a segment on President Obama's speech. In that speech the President says we need to work on getting off of oil, well this was Stewart's response:
If this isn't an excuse to get us off of oil I don't know what will. While I know that it will take sometime (we can't just change overnight) there is a way to start making alternatives more acceptable. Start by lowering subsidies to oil companies and increase the subsidies to alternative energy solutions among other things. There is increasing evidence that we are changing the global climate but not only that we are running out of oil it is time to instigate a change before we are forced to make a change because we run out of oil. It is time to act!!!!
